How to Become a Foster Parent

To be honest with you, I don’t have the words to make you feel better, but I do have the arms to give you a hug, ears to listen to whatever you want to talk about and I have a heart; a heart that is aching to see you smile again. -unknown

The Nipissing and Parry Sound region are in need of loving families regardless of marital status, religion, gender, sexual orientation or origin to open their homes to children and youth in need.

For all those considering becoming foster parents they can expect to go through a  rigorous screening process in order to find the right families for the right children.  The screenings would consist of:

  • an initial screening over the phone
  • completion of a criminal reference check on all those in your household
  • completion of a provincially mandated strength based assessment tool
  • completion of a provincially mandated home safety assessment
  • completion of the PRIDE parenting classes

Many different people are drawn to fostering and for many different reasons. If you feel you have the arms, ears and heart to foster, the Children’s Aid Society is interested in talking to you.  If you are interested in fostering a child or children, babysitting regularly or occasionally, providing relief for other foster parents please contact the Children’s Aid Society at:
